Green waste collection
Newham Council provides a free green waste collection service for residents. So don’t bin your green waste, just put it into normal refuse sacks or bundles, and call us to arrange a collection.
Collection is free and your green waste is collected in a special lorry and is taken to Jenkins Lane Reuse and Recycling Centre, where it is composted.
What can be collected:
Grass cuttings, leaves, prunings, trimmings, small branches, flowers, bark, twigs, weeds, wood shavings, straw and other green garden waste.
Newham Council cannot collect soil, bags containing non-green waste such as flower pots, piles of green waste which are not in bags, or large branches.
Requesting a collection:
Please complete the Green Waste Form online
here, or call 020 8430 2000 to book a collection. You will need to confirm the number of bags to be collected. Collections are completed within seven working days and run Monday to Saturday. You must book by 12pm on Friday to guarantee collection for the following week.
How Newham collects your green waste:
Please leave your green waste in normal black refuse sacks or bundles outside your door or at the boundary of your property not on the street. Please do not use orange recycling bags for your green garden waste as these are for recycling only. Refuse staff have to lift your bags and bundles up into the collection vehicle, so please don’t overfill them!
