Green waste collection
Don't have a compost bin for green waste?
Take it to a Reuse and Recycling Centre or use the Garden Waste Collection or the Green Sack Service.
Reuse and Recycling Centre (RRC)
You can take household green garden waste such as hedge cuttings, leaves, grass cuttings, twigs and branches to your local RRC
free of charge. It is composted locally and turned into a soil improver, which can be bought at the reuse and recycling centre – a great example of closed loop recycling! Find your nearest RRC by clicking
here .
Garden waste collection and composting service
This service allows you to store your green waste in a 240-litre wheeled bin which is provided by the council, emptied every two weeks (excluding two weeks over Christmas) and composted locally. This service is optional, and so there is a charge for it.
The scheme runs April - March and costs £33 per year, or £26.40 for concessions. The service is available for
half price from 1st October 2011 - 31 March 2012. A bin is £19.80 per year, or £15.80 for concessions.
Residents can pay by direct debit and any additional bins are provided at a 20% discount.
To sign up, contact the Havering Council StreetCare Call Centre on 01708 432563 or email:
gardenwaste@havering.gov.uk.
You can also visit the PASC in Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford.
Green Sack Collection
This scheme is an alternative to the new garden waste collection and composting service, for those with light garden waste.
Residents can buy Havering green bags from council buildings and libraries, and put their green waste in these. The green bags cost £5.75 for five, and the cost covers the cost of the bag, administration and collection.
You can fill your green bags with green waste and the council will pick them up along with your weekly rubbish and recycling collection.
The council will only pick up green waste if it is in Havering green bags. Please make sure your green sacks are left on the boundary of your property by 7 am with your household rubbish sacks and recycling sacks.
