Gardening Club

Does your school want to get growing?

Growing and nurturing your own produce is a great way to get your pupils thinking about food and where it comes from. Learn to reconnect with and value food - it's not just something that comes in a plastic box from a supermarket!

''Everyone knows children would rather be out than in'' says Growing Schools, a great website set up to provide teachers with a starting point for using the outdoors as a teaching tool.

Here are some other links to websites with more information and resources to help you get started:

Grow you own produce

  • Morrisons Let's Grow has lesson plans, lots of ideas and even id cards, so you can identify seeds and minibeasts
  • Grow Your Own Potatoes with the Potato Council. Register in February to get a free kit containing seeds, grow bags and posters
  • If you live in Redbridge and don't have your own space to grow, you can visit the Growing Kids Community Allotment in Woodford - they provide sessions for schools in term time and fun activities during school holidays

Create a garden or green space

  • Garden Organic have lots of resources and information about creating your own garden, including seed packs and growing guides
