Swap Shop Success!
14 March
On Saturday 5th March RFYC ran a Swap Shop at Upminster Library in Havering; thanks to everyone that came we managed to divert almost 400 items, adding up to a fifth of a tonne of waste, from landfill.
130 Visitors came along to join us in swapping things they no longer used for things they would, all for
free. From a Prada handbag to Thomas the Tank engine toys, Hugo Boss Jeans to Murder Mystery Parties, there was something for everyone.
Not only did everyone enjoy the swapping, but we also had children's activities, making earrings from old wrapping paper and decorating reusable cotton bags, along with information on how to reuse locally. Did you know there are over 60 charity shops in East London, they are a brilliant way to not only help the environment by reusing but to also support good causes. Check out
www.charityretail.co.uk to find your closest charity shop.
At the end of the Upminster Swap Shop all the left over goods were donated to the local Richard House Hospice Charity Shop.
Why not join in the fun and come along to one of our upcoming Swap Shops:
• Saturday 21st May at Romford United Reform Church
• Saturday 4th June at Wellgate Community Farm’s Open Day
Bring along your old bits and bobs and see if you can find yourself something new to treasure. Please remember we can’t accept any electrical items and all goods should be clean and in working order.
