Recycling saves money for your council

18 October

Recycling is vital for saving resources and diverting waste from landfill, but did you know that is also saves your council money?

Landfill tax alone costs £56 per tonne of waste and is rising by £8 each year; the total is more than £100 per tonne once all the other costs are considered. The fact is, recycling costs less! East Londoners saved over £2,280,000 by recycling last year; by borough that is:

• Barking & Dagenham £537,000
• Havering £732,000
• Newham £372,000
• Redbridge £640,000

How can we save even more?

Yes, put less in your rubbish bin, but don’t forget that recycling still costs money, so it is important to think first about reducing your overall waste and reusing as much as possible before you get rid of it!
