Love Food Hate Waste in Havering

31 July 2009

Did you know that 6.7 million tonnes of food is thrown away by households in the UK every year? Wasting food costs the average family £420 a year and has serious environmental implications.
Havering Council kicked off its promotion for the Love Food Hate Waste Campaign at the Mall in Romford on May 15th 2009. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the staggering amount of food that is wasted in the UK everyday and also to highlight the amount of money that is wasted by the average family as a consequence.

Roadshows will be taking place throughout July – September where
Recycling Advisors will be at hand to give advice and helpful tips on how to reduce food waste. They will also be giving out recipe cards showing you how to cook delicious meals with leftover food. Residents can also take the love food hate waste quiz with a chance to win prizes such as freezer bag clips and spaghetti measurers.

Visit the events page to find your nearest roadshow. In the meantime you can www.lovefoodhatewaste.com for loads of handy ideas, great recipes for leftovers from top chefs, help with understanding portions and much more!
