Household batteries now recycled at RRCs

14 October

Residents are now able to recycle household batteries at their local  Reuse and Recycling Centre (RRC).

The average household uses 21 batteries each year, and now you can help us recycle more by taking your used household batteries to your local RRC, where you will find a container specifically to recycle them. Around 600 million  household batteries are sent to landfill unnecessarily,  every year. That is 22,000 tonnes,  the weight of 110 jumbo jets! And fewer than 1,000 tonnes of batteries are currently recycled.

You can recycle all single cell batteries – such as AA and AAA - plus button and ‘square’ batteries.

If the household battery is small enough to carry in one hand -  for example batteries from a mobile phone, portable computer or PDA, cordless power tool, toy or household appliance-  then it can be recycled at the RRC.

We look forward to collecting your used batteries soon!
