Havering Schools Recycling Championships 2010

This year's Recycling Championship was won by Elm Park Primary School, who won £100 of vouchers for recycling the most waste.

The competition was open to all schools in Havering that have recycling bring banks emptied by Shanks. The competition was run during the months of June and July and is based on the highest amount of recycled waste collected, measured by kg per pupil over those two months.

Elm Park Primary School won £100 of Natural Collection eco-shopping vouchers for recycling 4.68kg per pupil (school's total: 1 ton). They also received the Recycling Championship Cup which they will keep at the school until next year!
2nd Place went to Squirrels Heath Infant School, who won £50 of Natural Collection eco-shopping vouchers for recycling 4.49kg per pupil (school's total: 1.1 tonnes).
3rd Place went to Ravensbourne Special School, winners of £25 of Natural Collection eco-shopping vouchers for recycling 3.69kg per pupil (school's total: 0.3 tonnes).

Children and teachers were present from each school at the presention on 24th November, where Counsellor Barry Tebbutt (Cabinet Member for the Environment, above) gave out the prizes.

In other Havering news, Mr Dennis Mills of Benets Road in Hornchurch, was the lucky winner of this year's green bin prize draw. The prize draw was open to all residents new to the service, who enrolled before October. Dennis will receive a free service up until March 2011. Dennis said "I am very pleased to have received my new bin. Due to my large garden, I used to need to go to Gerpins Lane quite regularly with my garden waste. I now don't need to do this, which will save me a lot of time and effort."

Dennis is now able to enjoy the benefits of the wheeled bin garden waste collection service along with almost 17,000 other Havering residents. If you would like to join the service please log onto www.havering.gov.uk/greenwaste
