Events are a great way to involve your local community in recycling and waste prevention.

Here are some ideas for events you can run:

Swap Shop or Give and Take Day

This free swap shop lets people find things they need, and get rid of things they don’t! Visit our Swap Shop page for more information.

Craft Event

Get everyone together and get those creative juices flowing! You can make cards, gifts, puppets, holiday decorations, clothes and homeware from recycled materials, and reuse things which you might normally throw away.

Old clothes can be given a new lease of life to become cushion covers, bags, and even other clothes…it is not difficult to turn an old pair of jeans into shorts, or even a skirt.

So get your most creative buddies together and award a prize to the person who reinvents their materials in the most exciting way.

Community composting

This is when communities get together to make compost. Click here to find out the benefits of composting.

Community composting has all the same benefits but is ideal for people who don’t have somewhere suitable for a compost heap, who want to work together to create delicious, nutritious compost which benefits the community.
